Claes Bang as 'Dracula' on BBC and Netflix is a sight to behold
Premiering just the the new year and decade begin next week, the BBC/Netflix co-production of ‘Dracula’ starring Claes Bang promises to be quite the thrill. It’s from the makers of the cool ‘Sherlock’ which starred Benedict Cumberbatch and turned the English sleuth into a sex symbol for many of us.
But Bang is a different creature. Not icy like Cumberbatch, much more Mediterranean in looks than he should be as a Scandinavian man. He reminds me of my beloved Jean Dujardin in that he takes on the role with a dash of sense of humor and impeccable style. Yeah, I guess that is a bit like the ‘Sherlock’ adaptation, not that you (I) mention it.
When I met the Danish actor in Dubai a couple of years ago, I was impressed by how unaffected he was by the #Metoo-dictated, politically correct behavior that all my male interview subjects had all adopted since the explosion of the movement. He sat near me and wasn’t afraid to invade my personal space, his humanity and warmth truly welcomed in this professional world that had suddenly turned so damned sterile for an Italian woman like me. In other words, I really enjoyed his sultry and masculine vibe, how he allowed for me to ask what I wished to — and, needless to say, I really loved writing about him afterward.
So here is the teaser to ‘Dracula’ but make sure you also catch my interview with Claes Bang here.
